About Us

In a garage by the beach in 1962, the Educational and Industrial Testing Service (EdITS) was founded with an idea to scientifically measure interests in careers. Our idea became a reality upon the release of the Career Occupational Preference Survey (COPS, now Interests). Over time, we decided to employ a comprehensive approach to career measurement, so the Career Ability Placement Survey (CAPS, now Abilities) and Career Orientation Placement and Evaluation Survey (COPES, now Values) were developed. As demand increased, we established a larger headquarters in San Diego. All three assessments were bundled together as the COPSystem, solidifying our three-pronged approach to career exploration. In 2025, after years of continuous development and a focus on clients within career guidance organizations, we created the VIA System, a version of the COPSystem designed for individual use.
